Dr. Champanaria performed reconstruction surgery in conjunction with my oncology surgeon. First, he did a right breast reconstruction with placement of a tissue expander, followed by removal of the expander and placement of an implant.I was so amazed at the high level of care I received from Dr. Champanaria and his staff. Not only was he able to save my bellybutton (which he up-front warned me that he may not be able to do) during my surgery for post gastric bypass surgery's for extra skin removal. 34 Years Old, 2 Kids, Pregnancy Wasn't Good to Me - Vancouver, WA - After dedicating 3 years of my life to trying to get my "pre-pregnant" body back, I conceded that pregnancy wasn't good to me. I had two children and lost over 135 pounds, stuck to a very strict diet and exercise schedule, and still couldn't get my body back. Like many women I had a constant protruding stomach and lots of excess skin. My breasts were completely deflated and also had excess skin. I had a nice, ample, lower belly roll that would make a great boob and it would be all me, would be warm, and would age with my body Dr. Champaneria had not glossed over the fact that it was a long and complicated surgery, and it would take a while to totally recover.I would need another surgery to lift the left breast to match the new one, and they would also do liposuction on my stomach. After that, there would be a small surgery to build the areola and nipple. Still, this seemed to be an incredible way to replace my breast. And I had all the confidence in the world in Dr. Champaneria.It was 10 months after my mastectomy when I had the DIEP-flap surgery. I checked in PeaceHealth Hospital on Feb. 3, 2016. Dr. Champaneria came in the pre-op and went over everything again. He is so professional, and seems to want to get his patients the best results he can. He also wants to make sure they know what to expect. I totally trusted him. I also met Grace, his serene and capable assistant. I knew I was in good hands.I was in surgery for 10 hours. I woke up in what would be my room for the next three days. I looked down and had two breasts again! It was me again! I think I cried a little. I had not mourned the loss of my breast to mastectomy - it wanted to kill me and it had to go. But I will admit, that looking in the mirror for those 10 months was hard. The scar looked so harsh and ugly next to the one breast I had left. I tried to not think about it. But when I woke up after surgery, looked down and saw I had two breasts again it kinda hit me. I guess I hadn’t realized just how much looking at that slash in my chest had demoralized me.The pain pump kept me very comfortable, and the nurses on the Eighth floor were fabulous. I had a monitor on the belly boob, to make sure the blood was flowing. It would make that noise for three days. I began to actually like the sound - it meant my new boob was happy and healthy!I’m now seven weeks from the surgery, and have lost 10 pounds and had to buy a 4” shorter belt. I’ll be having my revision surgery on May 4. I Thought I Would Settle for Prosthesis! - Vancouver, WA - I'm 56 yrs. old when my doctor started my breast reconstruction, it takes a year to do the process, so now I'm 57 and the results is amazingly fabulous, excellent job compared at the beginning when I had no left breast. What an excellent job is Doctor Champaneria has done to myself. I feel great without no more hesitation to show off the result and I don't have to wear on & off with the prostheses I had in the beginning besides I get tired of wearing and it is not the same what I got now the implant. I can't describe enough how grateful I am and the decision I made to have it done I feel a real "ME"!! To look at my breast now it's like an art what a picture to have this done with an excellent and a perfectionist doing the job that he loves to do, that's what I loved about my doctor if I just have more money I would definitely go back to have more done with myself. But breast reconstruction is a big job and what a worthwhile having this long process and see the excellent results. I'm definitely 110 percent recommend my doctor. I was fortunate enough to have insurance that covered all charges. My cancer doctor highly recommended Dr. Champaneria and after talking to him about procedures, pros and cons I decided to go with breast reconstruction. The surgeries and healing went well and I am very happy with the results. Pain was minimal, healing occurred quickly. 37 Year Old, Kids Can Be Murder on the Body...Vancouver, WA - Large breasts run in my family. It seems that they get larger after you have children. I am about 5' 1" and had a DDD breast size. 28 Year Old Liquid Silicone Implants Removed - Vancouver, WA - After 28 years, my liquid silicone breast implants needed to come out. They were asymmetrical, with one nipple pointing up and one nipple pointing down. A recent mammogram indicated that both had ruptured. There was also extensive calcified encapsulation of both implants, and I was in a fair amount of constant pain. The implants were originally inserted through an incision in my armpits, and placed on top of the chest muscle. At that time I was told that they would last my lifetime. Now, everyone knows that is not true. I am 59 years old, and have made the decision to embrace my natural look, whatever it turns out to be. Well, my natural look turns out to be pretty good. My breasts are not full, but at least my nipples are pointing the same direction – and it's not straight down! When I wear a push-up bra (36C), I even have cleavage. I give all the credit to Dr. Champaneria. The surgery was challenging and took all of three hours to perform. The doctor had to literally chisel out the scar tissue. This could have led to a lot of disfigurement, but due to the doctor's skill, it didn't. I have normal looking breasts now, and I am very happy and out of pain. And I no longer have to feel embarrassed when naked. More

My Breast Reconstruction Story - Vancouver, WA - I really didn't think it would effect me all that much to lose a breast from breast cancer. I thought about how fortunate I truly was to be alive and to have survived stage 3 breast cancer. But, I found myself looking in the mirror at my body that looked so different after the chemotherapy, radiation and a unilateral mastectomy. I had gained weight due to side effects of steroids used as part of my treatment, lost my hair and I stood there looking at one breast and on the other side, I had a "chest wall". I felt guilty as I cried. I felt so unattractive. I felt that I shouldn't be so selfish, so vain. I dried my eyes, put a smile on my face and hid my disfigured body the best I could.
