Specialties and Skills
Dr. Champaneria specializes in cosmetic surgery of the face, breast and body. He is considered an expert in body contouring, breast augmentation, and also facelift. Dr. Champaneria has a passion for technology and innovation which helps him provide excellent outcomes for his patients. He is also skilled at reconstructive procedures. Champaneria completed a highly competitive reconstructive microsurgery fellowship under the mentorship of Dr. Peter Neligan at the University of Washington in Seattle, where he learned novel techniques in microsurgical breast reconstruction, supermicrosurgical lymphedema surgery (vascularized lymph node transfer, lymphaticovenous anastomosis bypass), and other perforator free flaps for reconstruction. Dr. Champaneria continued his love of clinical research by co-authoring several book chapters on breast reconstruction and lymphedema.
Background and Education
Dr. Champaneria was born and raised in Southern California. His adolescence was highlighted by his commitment to scholarship and community service, graduating from Whitney High School, one of the country’s foremost magnet high schools, with highest honors and also attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. He attended UCLA and graduated with honors in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience. His love of anatomy, physiology, learning, and community service led him toward a career in medicine. He then attended the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis where he received several scholarships and awards and graduated with distinction at the top of his class in 2007. Amongst his highest achievements was induction into Alpha Omega Alpha, the honor society for graduating medical students.
Research Fellowship
In 2005 during medical school, Dr. Champaneria was accepted into the highly competitive Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellowship at Yale University in New Haven, CT. With the intent to study general surgery, he researched neuroendocrine tumors and gastric physiology, which led to over 20 publications in books and journals. After a suggestion from his mentor, he decided to pursue plastic surgery. He went on an international medical mission to Amman, Jordan with Operation Smile and fell in love with plastic surgery as a career. He was captivated by the variety, technical challenge, as well as the creativity and artistic nature of the specialty.
Residency and Training
Dr. Champaneria was accepted into one of two highly coveted positions in the Integrated Plastic Surgery Residency at Loma Linda University. He trained with some of the best plastic surgeons in Southern California, from Beverly Hills to Newport Beach. His experience at Loma Linda University, working in several hospitals and office settings in Southern California, allowed him to excel in each of the subspecialties within plastic surgery. He was selected as chief resident in his final year of training. His research interests varied, from breast reconstruction to abdominoplasty to the history of plastic surgery, and he presented at several national and international meetings. He also traveled to Haiti and to India as part of a team that provided international outreach and performed several operations and planned future medical missions, which further validated the impact and importance of the specialty to Dr. Champaneria.

Dr. Champaneria has a strong interest in clinical research and has contributed extensively to the scientific literature with over 50 articles, book chapters, abstracts, and presentations. Some of these articles are available online, and patients are invited to browse them.
Outside of Medicine
In his free time, Dr. Champaneria enjoys traveling, cooking, and art. He enjoys design, architecture, home renovation, and classical music.
